Hi, my name is Jerry. I have been in the military for more than 19 years. I started on active duty in the Navy, served after that in the Navy Reserve, and am currently in the Army National Guard where I serve my God, my unit, and my country as a Chaplain Assistant. I recently returned to the good ol' USA after 10 months in Iraq. If you are thinking about going into the military, if you have family or friends who are in, or you just want to talk about the current situation overseas, this is the forum for you. I look forward to hearing from you!!

I can see that there are a few of you who are looking at this forum. I am honored. I want to know what is on your mind. Do you agree/disagree with what is going on where the military is concerned?? Do you have questions about the situation in Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan?? How does God fit into the whole "miltary" thing??? I have some intriguing ideas about all of this. Hope to hear from YOU soon. Be blessed, Jerry

There is lots of controversy in the news these days about the military. Prison abuse, reports that chaplains can't pray in the Name of Jesus, fears about the situations in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas, the list is longer than I can write about-- and longer than you would care to read, but you get the picture. Do you have questions or comments on anything military related??? Maybe you are wondering how a person could be a Christian and a soldier too. I would love to hear from you. Be blessed, Jerry

Its that time again-- time for the next installment-- time to get you to write to me--so I know what you are thinking. But what do I say that will push you enough to click reply? While I was deployed (I was out of my house for 19 months)my family and I had to learn some valuable skills-- things that are universal-- they can be used to strengthen your family situation-- not just military families. We all know life is tough-- we can all use help now and then to get through the rough spots. Don't struggle through something if you don't have to. Maybe something that God has taught me because of this deployment will help you, but we will never know unless you ask... Be blessed, Jerry

Today marks the beginning of a new month. Summer is just around the corner, and there are some of you who are thinking about going into the military after school. For the most part, the recruiters are great- they want to help you make a BIG decision. Jerry's tip for this time though is to shop around. Talk to the recruiters from all of the branches-- even the ones that you wouldn't join. This will keep your options open and give you some bargaining power. Let the recruiters know that you are shopping around. Don't forget to look at the Reserve and the National Guard. They have great programs and options too. I would love to hear from you if you have comments or questions. Blessings, Jerry

HI All-- I have just finished reading a news article that is telling of yet another area in Iraq that is being turned over to the control of the Iraqi military. This is great news for the Coalition. Seemingly every day, more and more Iraqis are taking control of their own destiny, they want want democracy and freedom will provide them. They are willing to fight and die to get it-- much like people in this country in the Revolutionary period of our history. Things are EXCITING. Blessings, Jerry

You bring up a good idea, and in a perfect world, that would work great-- however if this were a perfect world, there would be no war at all and we wouldn't need to have this conversation. In this not so perfect world, we have people who can't get along. Sometimes this turns into a fight. When this happens, sometimes there is bloodshed and people die. During the fight(war)we focus on our opponent-- everything else seems to fade into the background. This is a good thing for other opponents who think they can strike while we are not paying attention, or that we don't have the energy or other resources to fight them. I think lots of what you are seeing coming from Iran and North Korea is the result of that. Those governments believe that we can't fight in Iraq and fight them too, so now is a good time to do some things that they wouldn't normally do. I hope this makes sense and I hope it helps. Be blessed, Jerry
